The Polish Pass
You can expect to get fined for speeding past a “safety” camera, parking on double yellow lines or on a pavement or for not having a valid tax disc unless you have a “Polish Pass”. This is a registration plate with a small PL on it, denoting that plod cannot be arsed to chase up the owners and impose their motoring penalties. Also works for P and LT.
From Protection To Logging
The role of the police has changed in emphasis over the years.
Originally “bobbies” were there to protect the public - patrolling was key to this role. The emphasis changed to that of crime detection - missed the baddies, get them later. Then to crime prevention- try to deter baddies. Now, the main role of the local policemen and women is to record it.
They are getting further and further away from the crimes.

But they couldn’t just move back....not without a massively expensive refit. This is still underway and plod currently operates out of a porta-cabin in the station car park. Progress.
Still we do have a new TETRA mast and all the benefits that come with it - nausea, headaches, TV interference, etc.
A few years back some bright spark at Divisional Headquarters decided to abandon Littlehampton and they evacuated the station.
Then there was a tragic and vile child murder and suddenly plod decided that actually the station was needed.
Did you know.... That 66% of all crimes in the area fail to end in a baddy being prosecuted? As poor as that seems, this is better than the national average.
