A Long Tradition Of Spontaneous Combustions
If the Planning offices token resistance to an application to demolish a building to clear the ground for development gets a bit out of hand - say, due to a popular campaign the council are forced to be seen to be draggin their heels in stamping their approval - then the building at the centre of attention may well spontaneously combust. It may take a few of this extremely rare phenomena to occur but it always results in the building being utterly destroyed and unrecoverable, planning permission being immediately passed and foundation trenches appearing overnight.
The Brittannia pub, that had the misfortune to find itself slap bang in the middle of the new East Bank development, spontaneously combusted 4 times in 18 months. The site is now covered in holiday apartments.
The Locamotive Inn, with no consideration for the building site next door, remains steadfastly in the way. On 10th August 2007 it had its first experience of spontaneous combustion!
The developers will be gutted, I’m sure.
