Did you know.... That you can only park illegally on the highway, according to the local police. If you park on a verge, on someone elses garden or even their poodle, the police say it is not their business.
Parking Verges
To minimise the need to cut the verges, the council seems to have a policy to encourage people to park on the grass verges and destroy them.
This serves two purposes;
1. The sooner they are muddy ruts, the sooner they can be by-passed by the contract grass cutters.
2. The ruined verges help in the “run-down” look the council are trying to achieve for the town.
Responsible Parking
Most of us good citizens go to long lengths to park responsibly - both safely and in consideration of others. This attitude is not encouraged in Littlehampton.
Residential Depots
Companies used to have depots for their vans and lorries to be parked in overnight.
Partly because the council prefers all land to be made available to developers for stacked up “waiting-to-die” apartments for crumblies and partly because of a total disregard to those in the area, but many companies now use the streets to park their vans in. Some small businesses have always parked outside their homes. But now we are seeing fleets of vans and trucks routinely parked in residential roads. The effect is to block the views and residential parking of those actually living there and to effectively turn residential areas into industrial estates, devaluing the property accordingly. The business pays nothing, the resident loses all round.
