Ten extra police officers were drafted in to Littlehampton Friday evening, given special ‘stop and search’ powers WITHOUT the need for suspicion of a crime, following a tip off that trouble was brewing and that trouble involved knives.
Two men were challenged by police in the Harvester restaurant. One was subdued and disarmed of a carving knife, the other evaded capture after lashing out with another carving knife. The suspect ran into the sea and disposed of the knife whilst the police stood by and waited for him to turn himself in.
The same evening, a gang fight in St. Catherines Rd, involving approx. 15 people led to 2 arrests. Although reports of knives, there were none recovered.
An 89 year old woman was robbed in her own house by a man posing as a neighbour (Angmering).
A disabled woman had her purse snatched, losing all her benefits, ID and cards whilst shopping in Littlehampton town centre.
